creating and inventing

the objects created by designers hans pallada and ilana herschenberg
from plastic plus are processed in several stages until they are completed
to be the final product.
the design exists and operated by them through the whole process of object development, as a creation and a thought, combining intuitive approach with rational development.
there is no standard procedure of a clear and linear process that begins with
an idea and sketches, advances through different developments and ends
with the product, instead the work is scattered in different directions and
spread into long and short time sequences. the object is a result of several actions such as: cutting, joining, stapling, folding, changing, piercing,
pushing and stretching.
the strategy is of a juggler - as if like magic that turns one accumulation state
into another. metamorphosis of structure, shape and material.
the object is a physical and conceptual body, an article created in a process
of hybridization between craft and technology, hand work, with tools and equipment.
taking this approach the members of plastic plus stand against the main
tendency of modernism, that has produced objects created in long serials and mass production controlled by machine.
plastic plus indicates different modernity, which offers a product that is useful and yet enhances an experience of material, shape and color delight.
a product that is light in its presence and remarkable in its lack of inclination to control space and surrounding. the production process hides with in itself experimentation and play which begin the moment the materials and articles
are found and examined through touch and observation and continue through invention of a specific procedure of object creation, with no obligation to a final look and purpose.
sometimes the designed idea requires technology development and assimilation of simple equipment special for realization and building.
enigmatic tools which are the secret and accelerators for the body creation. hence, cut corrugated plastic sheets in basic colors turn into illumination bodies,
a net is designs into structure and space. the challenge of constructing the article lingers and stall in creating simple and clever joints.
choices of "ready made" parts, are significant to the creation process. an action
of coordination between the different industries is created. the design invents
the joint in the shape of a mediator, who holds one kind of a part with a part
of a different industry.
color bending or drilling are another stage of intervention with the existing. the object evolution becomes complicated as parts of one product are used in a different role at another product. the implementation is a conversion between
the parts location in a certain place to an expression and structure in another object.
while implemented the object improves itself. the designing process continues also in real time, including planning the way of introducing the object and its special cover.
most of the works are the result of an encounter between structure, light and color.
the joints and folds create the territory, the surrounding and the autonomy
of the structure. these are works of peals and lines, works which turn two dimensions into three dimensions and indicate the easiness and change
together with temporality and provision.
before us are what seems to be simple objects, which lead the viewer to an experience of fantasy and illusion and enhance associations of nature, sky, stars and movement and glide of view.
hans pallada and ilana herschenberg are not part of the group of designers
that instruct through drawings and models; since the early 80s they design and imagine at the same time. they build the objects with intelligence and thought with their own hands.
plastic plus is in a process that is composed of stations of creation, expression and idea.
it's a route of surprises, devices and freedom of creators and inventors.
